Another step back in time.
When I decided to make this kind of guitar I figured that I would start with the beginning; 1954. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a real holy-grail kind of guitar that was loaned to us. It was number 1055 and she was and still is a honey of a guitar. We couldn’t have a better example.
We worked hard to get that same, vintage tone and feel with a few improvements along the way. Our body shape is slightly different and sexier. Smooth, hand-shaped contours make for a smoother, more flowing shape.
Our Saticoy models also have the lower tone knob controlling the tone on the bridge pickup alone while the middle tone knob controls both the middle and bridge pickups.
From accompanying brochure:
“To identify each guitar, we give them a unique female name. The name is inscribed in the control cavity and we also place a temporary sticker on the outside of the guitar. This sticker is just for identification both here at the factory and in the store. Pleases feel free to remove this sticker after purchase. And remember do not use LsL guitars as floatation devices. Thanks again, The crew at LsL.
“Because we install necks differently than others do, we recommend that our necks never be removed. On bolt-on models, the adjustment is accomplished with an offset, flat-blade screwdriver to achieve the .002” – .003” of relief in the neck.”
FINISH:
All LsL guitars are finished with Nitrocellulose lacquer. We mix our own colors and apply as thin a finish as possible and then hand-sand and buff. We then crack the finish to allow the guitar to sing and since the finish is so thin already we apply a little creative beating, so it has that played hard, brought home sweaty (for many years), kind of feel to it. Each one is unique and has her own personality.
PICKGUARDS:
LsL pickguards are all made in house and hand-fit, aged and finished.
Single-ply: White, parchment or cream (beige).
Early versions of these tend to deform with age and I’m sure ours will too. But that’s OK with us. All plastic will deform some with age, but single-ply is much more susceptible to this. We hand age these, take off the gloss and put a little hand-wear in the appropriate places.
We use our own, Philips-head, nickel-plated, aged, screws to attach our pickguards onto Saticoys.
ELECTRONICS:
We use CTS pots, fiber covered wire, and Mojo Dijon capacitors. A 5-way pickup selector switch.
The lower tone controls the bridge pickup and the middle tone controls the middle and neck pickups.
PICKUPS:
This Saticoys come with our 50’s set.
Bridge pickup: LsL Hand-wound, single-coil, slightly hotter than the middle or neck so it won’t be overly piercing.
Neck and Middle pickups: LsL Hand-wound, single-coil, low output.
Our pickup covers, knobs and metal parts have all been hand-aged, right here, with meticulous attention to detail and believability.
